System Details

The Pumper is capable of handling a wide range of PiBs at temperatures from ambient to 100 oC but most commonly the system is employed on PiBs with a viscosity of 1000cps at an operating temperature of 90 oC.

PiB may be added by an open discharge into the hopper of the extruder or through the drilled shaft of the extruder or into the barrel at up to 200 BAR.

The Pumper comprises a positive displacement rotary pump driven by a geared electric motor mounted directly beneath a nominal 20Ltr capacity stainless steel tank which is electrically heated, insulated and aluminium clad. This provides a reserve of heated PIB at a controlled temperature.

The PiB may be replenished via an air operated drum pump (which is optionally supplied) or via a ringmain. Electrical control is provided by an integral panel, which contains all the necessary motor control and protection functions as well as the tank heating controls with the temperature set point being readily adjustable and the heater state displayed.

The PiB Pumper is freestanding and is intended to mount adjacent to the extruder.

Depending on the extruder used it will be found that PiB contents of up to 8% can be achieved satisfactorily and the operation of the extruder is little different to the production of non-stretch films.
